Artist Statement

I believe that there is a softness within us all.

My approach to storytelling is studying a role or piece methodically but with fluidity. When it comes to theatre, I have fallen in love with studying where the tenderness lies within a character, helping me empathize with their situation and choices they make. This practice allows me to show my own interpretation of what drives them, while sticking true to the text. Consistent open conversation with collaborators, talking through events, time and detail are all crucial tools within my process.  Figuring out the nuances on why a character makes decisions based on their varying degrees of softness that we all possess is what helps me truly commit to those intentions. Within performing on the stage or screen that is truly the most beautiful part of storytelling in my experience.

I am determined to contribute a fresh perspective to the projects I am a part of. Queer Latino voices are under-represented in the theatre and film community. I am committed to change that by bringing my experiences and the stories of those like me to the stage and screen. I hope to be a role model for young children with my background. Growing up in a society or in families that seem to believe they can not amount to anything is an incredibly disheartening reality amongst my generation and the ones younger than I and what is even more heartbreaking is that these young people start to believe it. I refuse to let that continue. My mission is to help others believe in the possibility of happiness for themselves. Sometimes that is just what a human needs. One of the roles I play in my community is quite simply a human with a heart, who wants to boost others when they have moments of doubt and don't believe that their unique perspectives have any value. I will always encourage the people around me to be authentic and available while appreciating the true beauty that is the gift of life, no matter how tumultuous it may be. I believe and have been told that my work can and has inspired that in others.
